About Septic Tanks Mayo

Septic Tanks Mayo is a locally focused service-area business providing practical septic tank, wastewater and groundwork services throughout County Mayo. We help customers understand what is happening below ground and choose a sensible way to deal with it.

Our Story

Septic Tanks Mayo was founded by Declan Hegarty after years working around drainage, excavation and rural groundworks throughout the county. Declan grew up outside Castlebar, where septic tanks and private wastewater systems were a normal part of maintaining many family homes. Early in his working life, he became familiar with the practical problems these systems can create: old tanks with uncertain layouts, damaged pipes, difficult access, wet ground and sites where the wastewater arrangement had been changed several times over the years.

What stood out to Declan was how confusing septic problems could be for homeowners. One person might recommend emptying the tank, another might suggest replacement and somebody else might point toward the drains or percolation area. He wanted to build a business that looked at the complete site first and explained the options in straightforward language. That became the foundation of Septic Tanks Mayo.

Today Declan works with Siobhán Moran and Eoin McHale. Siobhán coordinates customer enquiries, scheduling and the site information the field team needs before arriving. Eoin works alongside Declan on excavation, pipework, tank positioning and ground reinstatement. The team's approach remains simple: understand the problem, prepare the site properly, communicate clearly and avoid doing more work than the property genuinely needs.

How We Work

Straight answers

We explain what we see, what part of the system appears to need attention and why a particular next step makes sense. Customers should not need specialist knowledge to understand the work being proposed.

Do the necessary work

A septic problem does not automatically justify the largest possible project. We prefer a focused repair when repair makes sense and a properly planned replacement when it does not.

Respect the property

Excavation can be disruptive, so we plan machinery access and working areas carefully. Our aim is to complete the agreed work without creating avoidable disturbance elsewhere.

Think about the complete system

The tank, pipework, treatment equipment and percolation area all affect how a private wastewater system performs. We consider those parts together rather than looking only at the most visible problem.
